Bruises and Wounds

I cannot believe how fast this semester has been going. This is the project that I have been waiting and looking forward to doing the most. I always watch videos on YouTube of special effects makeup but I have never tried doing it my self. I thought that this class was going to be a lot like doing my everyday makeup but I was wrong. The tiniest details really do matter and can even change the entire look of a design.

Learning to do bruises and wounds were part of the whole reason I wanted to take this class. I think that the art of special effects is magical. If I was not going to be a teacher I would definitely go to school for makeup and special effects.

I never realied how many different shapes you can make with the bruises and wounds.

This was the first step to creating the the wound. I put a layer of latex down on a sheet protector and then I waited for it to dry a little but and then I placed the shape of my cotton balls down onto the latex.
This was the shape that I fianlly came up with. I didnt know if it was too big or too small at first. But I left it this way because I will never know without trying. I put a layer of latex over the cotton and then waited for it to dry. I repeated this step about 4 times so that the thickness was good.

Then i put purple on the inside of the wound and a little bit of red to give dimension. I then used a sponge to put yellow around the deepest part to help blend it together. After that was finished I then put foundation around the putside with a sponge to further help it blend.

I used a Q-tip and power like I did with my other appliances to help safely get off the wound. I realized that my wound was very flat when I took it off. I wasnt sure if this was right or if I wanted it to be that thin. I leanred that the thinner the aplliance the better because it will be easier to stick to on your face or anywhere you may need it to.

Before it was time to put the wound on I had to create the bruise around my eye.
I was really excited to do this part. I had no clue how we were going to do it but I couldnt wait.
I started off by doing glam makeup. I guess the point of this was to make every other part of our faces look perfect and untoched by the horror. I first put on foundation, color corrector, and then highlight, and contour. This step was so easy and I got through it very quickly.
This is the final look of th4e glamour makeup. As you can see only one eyebrow is filled in because the wound was going to go over the undone eyebrow and I would have to clean it off anyway.

First I used a brown pencil to outline my bruise. I then filled in the entire area with yellow cream paint. Next I went into the purple and used a Q-tip tp spread hat color through the shape. I also used my finger to help blend it out. The next color was the dark red. I cant believe that all of these colors made an actaul bruise on my face. It looked so real, I was shocked.
I used a little bit of purple on paint brush to put underneath my other eye to show the impact of whatever object that had hit me. This is a close up of it.
This is a side profile of the bruise. I think I would have made it look a little bit more realy if the bruise wasnt as big. I need to also make an area a little darker to show where the impact first happened.

I was glad that this part was over because now I got to move onto the wound.

I then put the wound on my forehead. I forgot to take pictures of this process becasue I was so excited to finall put it on. This is what I haven been waiting for since this class started.

I used spirit gum and placed that on the back of the wound. While I waited for that to get a little bit tacky I used a wipe to wipe off any makeup that was around the area where I was going to place the wound. I did not know that if there was a little bit of makeup that the appliancw would not stick to my sick. These pictures show when I placed the wound application on my head. I used foundation to help blend the wound into my face and make it look like actual skin. Then Sue told us that we could pull out the liquid blood and out it inside out wound and down our faces to make it look like the wound was bleeding.

I took so many pictures like this because I was so proud of the final project. I even send my mom a picture and she was amazed at how real it actually looked. I have to say that thos project was the best one that I did so far. I think I took  more time and actually cared what it looked like. I really enjoyed this entire process.
