Color Theory

These were my first painting in stage and makeup. I have never used "real" water activated paints before, the closest I ever got to use them were ones from my local dollar store when I was younger. I actually had a stressful time trying the mix these colors. It was hard for me because I never had the experience of making enough of the certain color. Whenever I ran out of a color it was very hard to try and replicate the exact color. I feel as though I had learned a great deal from this assignment. I am the kind of person that wants to be great at something the first time I do it, and if not I get frustrated and want to give up. I learned that I am going to need to have patience and I will not always get these things right the first time, that is why I am in an introductory class.

During this exercise, I had to mix my main blue color with white to get a lighter blue shade and with black to get a darker blue shade until it got as dark as black. These steps show how I missed up on step 3 and 4 because the two shades of blue that I created were two close in color. I found this assignment to be easier than the main colors but still a little difficult because I had never manipulated colors like this. The second picture is when my blue was way too dark. I realized that I needed to add more white into my blue to get the color lighter. I took a picture of this because I was proud of myself for continuing to mix colors until I received a final product that I was happy with.
The pictures below show my finished products from class. Overall, I am pretty happy with how my blue scale turned out. I love how the blues flow right into the next color. I think with my white to black scale I could have done a little bit better having the colors flow. This assignment has really taught me how to look at colors and the mixture we need to create them.
